Fair Play is a city in Polk County, Missouri, United States. The population was 475 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Springfield, Missouri Metropolitan Statistical Area.
Fair Play is located in East Madison Township (T34N R24W) at 37°38.0′N 93°34.5′W / 37.6333°N 93.5750°W / 37.6333; -93.5750 (37.6328, -93.5756).
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.41 square miles (1.06 km), all land.
As of the census of 2010, there were 475 people, 200 households, and 116 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,158.5 inhabitants per square mile (447.3/km). There were 225 housing units at an average density of 548.8 per square mile (211.9/km). The racial makeup of the city was 96.8% White, 0.6% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.6% from other races, and 1.7% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.9% of the population.
There were 200 households of which 32.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 42.5% were married couples living together, 7.5% had a female householder with no husband present, 8.0% had a male householder with no wife present, and 42.0% were non-families. 35.5% of all households were made up of individuals and 17% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.38 and the average family size was 3.08.
The median age in the city was 38.1 years. 27.2% of residents were under the age of 18; 8.4% were between the ages of 18 and 24; 21.9% were from 25 to 44; 27.2% were from 45 to 64; and 15.4% were 65 years of age or older. The gender makeup of the city was 51.4% male and 48.6% female.
As of the census of 2000, there were 418 people, 160 households, and 107 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,392.5 people per square mile (538.0/km²). There were 189 housing units at an average density of 629.6 per square mile (243.2/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 95.45% White, 0.48% African American, 3.11% Native American, 0.48% from other races, and 0.48% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.72% of the population.
There were 160 households out of which 40.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 55.0% were married couples living together, 7.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 33.1% were non-families. 30.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 17.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.61 and the average family size was 3.21.
