Spanish Lake is a census-designated place (CDP) in St. Louis County, Missouri, United States. The population was 19,650 at the 2010 census.
Spanish Lake is located at 38°47′9″N 90°12′46″W / 38.78583°N 90.21278°W / 38.78583; -90.21278 (38.785849, -90.212879).
The Spanish Lake community is located in the northeastern portion of St. Louis County. The community is bounded by the Mississippi River to the east, the Missouri River to the north, Highway 367 to the west, and Interstate 270 to the south.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 7.5 square miles (19 km), of which 7.4 square miles (19 km) is land and 0.2 square miles (0.52 km), or 2.13%, is water.
As of the census of 2000, there were 21,337 people, 8,381 households, and 5,673 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 2,900.4 people per square mile (1,119.3/km²). There were 8,852 housing units at an average density of 1,203.3/sq mi (464.4/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 42.25% White, 54.79% African American, 0.20% Native American, 0.66% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 0.46% from other races, and 1.61% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.03% of the population.
There were 8,381 households out of which 38.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 39.4% were married couples living together, 23.6% had a female householder with no husband present, and 32.3% were non-families. 27.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 8.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.54 and the average family size was 3.09.
In the CDP, the population was spread out with 30.4% under the age of 18, 9.9% from 18 to 24, 31.3% from 25 to 44, 17.3% from 45 to 64, and 11.0% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 31 years. For every 100 females, there were 86.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 79.0 males.
The median income for a household in the CDP was $37,410, and the median income for a family was $44,139. Males had a median income of $32,340 versus $26,644 for females. The per capita income for the CDP was $18,976. About 10.2% of families and 11.7% of the population were below the poverty line, including 18.4% of those under age 18 and 8.0% of those age 65 or over.
